A long-standing West Hollywood sex shop, which has been established since the early 1970s, is renovating with the times, including the addition of a luxurious dining room for Cali kush lovers to consume high-quality cuisine and cannabis simultaneously. According to Mugglehead Magazine, the PleasureMed complex launched its Irie restaurant and lounge last fall, a chill place for patrons to “enjoy local farm-to-table food and cannabis simultaneously in a palatial setting.”
Lindsay Maharry, a freelancer from Leafly, a marijuana education platform and marketplace, recently dined and smoked at Irie, and shares that she was impressed with the entire experience, which was supposedly a debut six years in the works.
“The way that Irie normalizes consumption, allowing us the same tier of luxury as fancy diners and wine enthusiasts, almost brought tears to my eyes,” Maharry reviews.
Irie is part of a larger entertainment complex, PleasureMed, by the expanding sex store, Pleasure Chest. PleasureMed is comprised of Irie, the wine bar Hind and a dispensary. In addition to locally-sourced and hip dining, marijuana from Alien Labs, Garden Society and Northern Emeralds California and other small-batch cannabis companies can be found on the Irie menu.
How is this possible? Guests can enjoy multiple courses of food and cannabis at the same table, but they will have to pay separately, and with cash, for pot products, such as flower, blunts and infused drinks.
California was the first state to legalize medical cannabis in 1996, and West Hollywood (“We-Ho”) of Los Angeles has more dispensaries per square mile than any other city worldwide. Although there are currently about 15 other cannabis lounges in West Hollywood, Irie from PleasureMed is certainly making a name for itself with its fine and distinctive atmosphere.
“Its truly unique dispensary-bar-hybrid-weed lounge is a playground for the senses,” writes another reviewer, Lindsey Bartlett of Forbes, who claims that Irie is unlike any other lounge on Santa Monica Boulevard. “Its sun-soaked dining room is dripping with plants and feels like you’ve walked onto a movie set.”
The Pleasure Chest’s Owner, Brian Robinson, had actually considered putting PleasureMed inside of the main California sex shop, “because what’s better than sex and weed?” he says. But although he decided against that particular combination, Robinson did manage to carry over some of the sex store vibe to Irie.

The Pleasure Chest is in adult store chain with locations in California, New York and Illinois. The West Hollywood location is directly adjacent to Irie and the rest of the PleasureMed complex. The new PleasureMed complex was designed by Studio UNLTD in Los Angeles, with a theme inspired by the apothecaries of Havana, Cuba.
