Lulexy is a fast-growing BDSM company offering a range of bondage restraints and accessories all handmade in New Jersey. Their bondage gear focuses on quality, functionality and aesthetics.

The brand came about when some of the people behind it were searching the market for durable leather restraints that would be both comfortable and luxurious.

“Unfortunately, most of the products we tried failed our expectations one way or the other,” says Julie Kowalewski, owner of Lulexy. “That’s when we realized there must be lots of other people facing the same problem. It was our ‘Aha’ moment that inspired us to start the journey of creating high-quality bondage gear and what eventually became the Lulexy brand.”

SE Magazine spoke with Kowalewski about the brand’s philosophy, its BDSM products, as well as what retailers can do to improve in-store bondage sales.

SE: What can you say about Lulexy to readers who may not be familiar with the company?

KOWALEWSKI: We continuously study and work with European designers to create bondage gear that provides style and functionality to couples that are familiar with the BDSM lifestyle and the ones that are just getting started.

SE: Bondage-wear, or gear, has always been a popular subsection in adult retail but few may be versed in what goes into making dependable bondage attire. What makes Lulexy stand-out for retailers to know and pass on to their customers?

KOWALEWSKI: All Lulexy products are proudly made in the USA using full-grain Italian leather. We went an extra step and lined the inside of every product with suede that hugs the skin gently and softly. As a result, even individuals with sensitive skin find our products to be comfortable and gentle enough even when worn for longer periods of time. All our products are available in 14 different colors which gives our customers a fun way to express their personality through the color of their bondage wear.

SE: Which products are your hottest sellers and why? How many SKUs do you offer retailers?

KOWALEWSKI: Our customers seem to favor the seven- piece sets as they give couples a variety of our most popular items to play with. These sets include wrist cuffs, ankle cuffs, thigh cuffs, collar, chain leash and two metal connectors. This selection of restraints provides multiple ways to enjoy favorite sex positions and explore new ones. Many times our customers love their new gear so much they come back to complete
their collection by purchasing additional accessories, such as different types of connectors, matching ball-gag or a waist belt for an even more exciting experience.

Recently, emerald green products have been in high demand. This color is a rare find in the bondage gear world but has proven to be very desirable. Additionally, emerald green has been dubbed the color of the year in 2022, so we expect our green products to remain in the bestseller position for some time. Currently, we offer nearly 200 individual SKUs.

SE: What should retailers know about the craftsmanship that goes into every Lulexy product?

KOWALEWSKI: We knew that in order to create luxury bondage gear, we’ll have to use materials that look and feel amazing. As a result, we selected full- grain vegetable tanned leather that comes from the best tanneries in Italy. This type of leather is the most desired and expensive of all leathers as it leaves the entire grain intact and doesn’t use any harsh chemicals in the tanning process. Vegetable tan leather preserves the natural pattern that is unique to each hide, and it also has that wonderful aroma leather is known for. Additionally, we made sure our products are sturdy by selecting high-quality hardware that
is heavy and thick enough to hold up even when things get rough.

SE: What’s in store this year for Lulexy?

KOWALEWSKI: We’re off to a good start with team expansion, and we’re particularly excited about launching a harness line for women and men later this year. We’ll also launch a new restraint collection and a whole new Lulexy impact toys line.

SE: In your opinion what do adult retailers need to know about bondage wear in order to increase their in-stores sales?

KOWALEWSKI: These days bondage wear comes in many different styles and colors. Offering a wider selection of bondage products so the customers can find something that not only “fits the purpose” but also highlights their personality or makes a statement might help to increase in-store sales.
