Polo Medina, owner of Sex Shop Matamoros, shares how his partner, Laura Castro — once hesitant — became his biggest supporter.

When her husband, Polo Medina, now owner of the three Sex Shop Matamoros stores, first envisioned opening adult retail stores in their city, Laura Nancy Castro Muraira was understandably apprehensive. The concept was foreign, and she worried about societal perceptions and the potential for failure.
As a recent law graduate from university, this new venture was a stark departure from her imagined future. Yet, despite her initial fears, Muraira’s unwavering trust in her husband and her inherent strength led her to support his dream and eventually find her own unique passion within its unconventional realm. This is the story of Muraira’s unexpected journey, from initial trepidation to becoming an integral part of a thriving business, discovering a hidden talent for education and connecting with people, as explained to StorErotica legal correspondent by Laura’s husband, Polo Medina.
At the beginning, my wife, Laura, was terrified about us opening the adult retail stores, primarily because of what her family might think and because there was nothing like it in Matamoros. She worried the stores would fail and we’d lose everything. This was especially true because in early 2006, not long after our wedding in September 2005, I started looking into opening the stores. We finally opened the first one in December 2006, and our first child was born just four weeks later.
So many emotions were going through Laura’s mind. She had just graduated from university, studying to work at a law firm. Adult retail was utterly different from her background, nothing like what she had pictured for her future. She knew it would take a long time to build the business, but she always trusted my instincts and stood by me.
She never even applied to a law firm. Instead, she helped me run the stores for the first ten years while I worked my warehouse job from eight to five to keep the business growing and provide a steady income for our family. As time passed, she started worrying about how we would explain to our kids what we were selling in the stores.
Our son is now eighteen, and our daughter just turned fifteen. They know what we do for a living, but we still don’t talk much about the business with them.
As time passed, Laura started to enjoy how we were doing business and helping people, especially because she loves explaining things and teaching people about our products. Because her friends asked her to, she’s even started hosting private home parties to show what we sell. Three years ago, she went back to school on Saturdays to become a teacher because she discovered she’s very good at explaining things and loves connecting with people, something very different from her first law degree.
