Attendees got a sneak peek at some of the industry’s latest innovations at a recent sex toy expo in Shanghai, and it’s clear that artificial intelligence will have a major impact on new devices in the upcoming years. While it’ll still be some time before retailers can carry realistic sex robots, there were plenty of impressive toys on display that offer AI features.Ā

Svakom for example, a Chinese brand that focuses on teledildonics, exhibited a masturbator that can sync up to videos and imitate the motions on screen. In addition to videos available on the Svakom app, users can also use the device with an AI plug-in on approved sites or pair itĀ with an AI chatbot “fantasy partner.”

According to Svakom’s Europe Sales Manager, Hannes Hultman, “You can ask the AI to control your toy. You create your own girlfriend and actually interact. And now you can basically touch your body through the toy.”

The Beijing-based company Sistalk Technology has an app with a similar chatbot feature. However, it stands out as it also acts as a social media platform where users can talk and virtually hook up by taking control of each other’s sex toys.

A salesperson at Sistalk Technology shared that the market is changing as younger generations in China with higher standards are becoming customers.

“Although we make sex toys, we’re trying to change the mindset of our community and make (the focus) less pornographic,” he states.

As technology advances, it’s not just being used to enhance pleasure but to improve well-being as well. The expo also displayed a vibrator that could strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and predict ovulation by measuring the user’s temperature internally.Ā

“I think there’s a lot of things changing in the industry,” says Hultman. “The technology aspect, the AI… it’s growing so fast, it will be very interesting to see where all this goes. But we have big plans.”
