MD Natural Health is tapping into the CBD market and crusading for safety, transparency and effective products along the way.

MD Natural Health isn’t re-inventing the wheel. But it is making sure customers enjoy the hell out of the ride. After a rousing reception at ANME, MD Natural Health is working to expand cannabidiol’s (CBD) footprint on the sexual health and wellness map.
“We manufacture the highest-quality CBD products on the market,” says Meg Leung, senior vice president of MD Natural Health. “We focus on quality and control to ensure all products meet the highest standards. We really work hard to test the consistency, potency and purity. Really, our mission is to help our consumers improve their health and wellness through natural ways.”
The other big question that has become less hazy with the ongoing legal fluidity surrounding CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the difference between the two: THC is responsible for the psychoactive properties typically associated with marijuana, while CBD helps with inflammation and a host of other things.
(Editor’s note: CBD has not been approved by the FDA, so its specific attributes cannot be endorsed by CBD companies)

Naturally safe

“We want to cover different bases,” says Leung, referencing how MD Natural Health is infiltrating the CBD market.
Edibles, tinctures, and even a CBD-based lubricant are all in the works for MD Natural Health’s product portfolio. And, true to its mission statement, the company is not cutting corners or relaxing its stringent requirements to compromise quality or consistency.
“Our edibles are different than a lot of other companies,” says Leung. “We’re infusing our edibles with CBD. A lot of companies on the market spray their edibles as they go through a conveyor belt and that’s not good for two reasons: It doesn’t taste very good, but more importantly, you cannot control the serving of CBD on the edible when it’s only going through a conveyor belt.
“Safety and transparency—those are really important things to MD Natural,” Leung adds, noting that the company has chains of custody for all their products and they can trace everything from seed to sale. “Anyone ingesting something should know where it’s coming from and feel safe with the product.”
For MD, that means 0% THC. Leung says it’s legal to have up to .3% THC in any CBD product; howevr, MD Natural Health opts to remove THC through a CO2 cold-press extraction process because even minuscule thresholds of THC can show up in drug tests if a user is daily dosing.
“All of our products have a QR code and (customers) can scan it with their phone and once they scan it, it brings them to our website which links them to all of the test results for each individual item and batch of products,” says Leung. “Anybody can see the test results and feel totally comfortable knowing the total transparency we offer.”
When it comes to MD Natural Health’s tinctures (concentrated liquid herbal extracts), they have the total milligram count on the bottle and also break down the milligram-per-serving amount. Beyond that, consumers can even decide how much to take with a graduated dropper with different measurements. And the company’s drink mix ingredient deck starts with wholly occurring vitamins and minerals, along with CBD.

“Will there be some caffeine in our drinks? Absolutely. But is it going to be the first thing you see on the ingredient deck like you see in other drinks? Absolutely not,” says Leung. “We’re going to have lots more items very shortly. We want to be the leaders with the items we bring to the marketplace and we’re excited in the next few months to be showing a lot of great things.”

Seeing green

This isn’t all altruistic either, as MD Natural Health sees robust potential in the profit margins.
“We believe CBD is one of the biggest health and wellness categories to develop in our generation,” Leung says. “It’s our mission to help millions discover the benefits.”
It’s why, in addition to the usual suspects in this growing market—edibles, tinctures, etc.—MD Natural Health is exploring CBD-based sexual wellness products as well, starting with its lubricant.
“CBD opens the receptors in the body so it’s going to enhance the overall enjoyment of using the lubricant,” says Leung. “We’re also doing a female sexual enhancement product and it’s going to do the same thing: We’ll have the CBD mixed in with the female enhancement, and then during application (it’s a topical), it’ll get absorbed leading to an enhanced experience. Your body gets to absorb the health and wellness benefits of CBD. It’s a great win-win for everybody.”
MD Natural Health may have come about organically, but it isn’t a stretch to think there were other factors that initiated its introduction to the marketplace.
“The real things that pushed MD Natural into existence was seeing the benefits people are deriving from CBD products, whether it’s pain, anxiety or any of the other things that have been studied and realizing there’s a real segue between that and sexual health, something that is right in our wheelhouse,” says Leung. “So we’re not only coming to market with a line of products that is really the gateway to getting into the space, but down the road the expansion to that product line is where we see ourselves coming into our own.”
