Medusas’ unofficial mascot, Tiffany Von Katze, reveals how she helps her humans draw customers into the store and keeps the counters tidy.
(NOTE: This story appears in the February 2025 issue of SE Magazine)
Every great business has a secret weapon, and for Medusas, it’s Tiffany Von Katze—a store cat with a larger-than-life personality and a knack for winning hearts. As the unofficial mascot and self-proclaimed silent partner of the store, Tiffany brings her own unique charm to the team. Whether lounging in her favorite seasonal spots, supervising (or ignoring) daily operations or greeting her street-side admirers through the window, Tiffany has become a beloved fixture for staff and customers alike.
In this playful interview with StorErotica Legal Correspondent Larry Kaplan, Von Katze shares insights into her daily routine, her favorite spots in the store and her unapologetically cat-like approach to life. From demanding canned meat rations to forging unexpected friendships with passersby, Tiffany proves that even the most independent of felines can play a vital role in fostering a welcoming and inclusive vibe at Medusas.
SE: What does a typical day like for you? Do you keep the staff company or prefer your own space?
VON KATZE: I do my own thing. When the humans arrive, I make sure to let them know it’s time for some canned meat rations. They are not allowed to do anything else until said rations appear in my bowl.
SE: What was life like on the streets before you met Kristy and Randy?
VON KATZE: Cold and hungry. I was lost in the wintertime.
SE: When customers are shopping, do you more often take on the role of a security guard who keeps the inventory safe or a stock associate who hides out in the back?
VON KATZE: I hide in the back. One time, someone broke in and stole the cash register, but that didn’t seem much like my problem, so I just watched them do it.
SE: Do you ever pretend to be asleep to avoid interacting with customers?
VON KATZE: Yes, because I am waiting for the humans to offer me treats for interacting with people.
SE: When you’re feeling friendly, do you prefer ear scratches or booty scratches?
VON KATZE: A bit of both; sometimes, I’ll even let you rub my belly.
SE: Where’s your favorite spot in the store to take a cat nap?
VON KATZE: I rotate based on the seasons. In the winter, I am underneath the stage (Note from Kristy Gabel: there’s a heater vent under our lingerie section; it turns into a sauna under there for Tiffany), or I am on my heated mattress by the register. In the summertime, I sleep primarily in the front windows, away from the A/C.
SE: Have you ever tried to “help” with product placement or rearranging things?
VON KATZE: Yes, but the humans don’t like it when I choose items on the counters that I feel should be on the floor.
SE: Are there any particular items in the store that you like to play with or hide from customers?
VON KATZE: I adore hair ties. The humans leave hair ties around the shop for me. I am not a fan of appliances like vacuums. I also do not like dogs unless they’re smaller than me. I will try to murder dogs passing by the front window and scare everyone in the shop.
SE: How do you describe the store “vibe” to your kitty pals?
VON KATZE: Lots of treats for kitties at this joint. But the place seems pretty open to everyone.
SE: If you could design your ideal cat toy, what would it be?
VON KATZE: A hair tie that can launch itself.
SE: What is the best part of your job? What is most challenging?
VON KATZE: I can do what I want, demand what I want and hide in small places when I don’t feel like being around. The humans also put me on a diet because I am a wide load, so that’s pretty challenging. But I love humans.
Sometimes people come to the store just to see me. Even when the store is closed, I make friends with pedestrians through the windows. Sometimes, they will walk by during open hours, and I am very excited to see my random street friends.
