Enchantasys chain store owners, Jim and Kim Patterson, explain how a phone call led to a blooming partnership.
(NOTE: This story appears in the April 2025 issue of SE Magazine.)
The husband-and-wife team, Jim and Kim, own the nine-store Enchantasys chain—the Pattersons partner with Ducky Doolittle on the two Arkansas Enchantasys stores in Fayetteville and Conway. Kim Patterson shares with StorErotica Legal Correspondent Larry Kaplan how the collaboration with Ducky Doolittle came about.
“We did a Zoom training seminar for our staff with Blush, and Ducky, who was employed at Blush at the time, was presenting. At the end of the seminar, Ducky announced that the training would be her last training event with the brand and that she was leaving Blush. After the training, I spoke to Jim and said that since Ducky is leaving Blush, we must reach out and see if she wants to come and work with us.”
“He told me not to get my hopes up and that there was no way she would be interested in going to a small chain like Enchantasys. I said, ‘Well, it wouldn’t hurt to ask, and if I don’t reach out, I know I’ll regret it.’”
“I reached out and asked if she’d be open to a conversation. It was about a week after she left Blush, and we talked on the phone. I asked, ‘What do you want to do? Where do you think you’d be happiest?’”
“She told me she missed working in the stores, so I told her, ‘Let’s open a store together.’ It was an easy decision to offer up a store because of her background. Ducky has done it all—retail sales, wholesale sales, marketing, education, etc. I don’t think there’s anything in the industry that she hasn’t had some experience with. I can ask her anything, and she’ll have the answer or some experience to get me the information I need. Plus, our stores have always been more education-focused (with our staff and customers’ experiences), so it was a no-brainer to add a sexual educator like Ducky to our team.”
“Ducky didn’t know where she was moving to during this time, so we couldn’t move forward with the store immediately. To get our working relationship started, she took over our marketing department, which was nonexistent at the time. She implemented marketing procedures, added an associate, and basically got everything set up for the next person to take over once she was ready to move into the store position. Also, during that time frame, we were busy scouting for a location, doing a fit-up, and setting up our first Arkansas store.
Ducky has done it all—retail sales, wholesale sales, marketing, education, etc. I don’t think there’s anything in the industry that she hasn’t had some experience with.

“What makes our Conway store special is that we constantly host events. Ducky teaches quite a bit, and we also host events like medical professional meet-and-greets, patient advocacy events for veterans, and fun events like game nights and trivia.”
